FAQs

Do you build gardens designed by others?

No, we only build gardens designed by Johannes. This is because our designs pay such close attention to the construction process. However, you are free to take our design to another landscaper.

What does the design include?

The design includes detailed drawings with measurements, material specifications and a plan for planting and lighting.

Do you oversee other landscapers who build your design?

We do offer project management as an additional service, to be arranged on a case-by-case basis. We work with your contractor to ensure the result corresponds with the design and visit the site to check that the work is carried out to the highest standards.

Do you advise on planting?

Yes, a planting plan is part of the design. At the first meeting, we’ll ask about the colours and kind of plants you like, and consider how what you already have may be included, too. The cost of plants and planting is calculated separately to the design and landscaping.

Do you offer garden maintenance?

We don’t offer a maintenance service ourselves but we can advise you on how the garden should be maintained in future, and we have maintenance partners in some areas of London.

How do you ensure the longevity of the garden?

For us, sustainability is not just a buzzword, it’s at the heart of everything we do. From a design point of view, this means that we think carefully about every possible use of the space so that it will work for a range of scenarios, for as long as possible. One example of this is taking care to ensure patios are large enough for seating areas that accommodate people comfortably and take account of any space that might be lost to paths or walkways.

From a building perspective, it means having a good understanding of materials - how they work together and how they age. For example, we take care to prevent warping or decay of wood by using end cut treatment, putting a barrier between wood and soil, and wood off the ground if appropriate. For masonry, this means considering how the ground moves. We always build strong bases and add steel reinforcements if this is necessary. With planting, we want the garden to benefit the environment.

We want your garden to stay looking great for as long as possible and to inspire joy through any transitions the house may go through.
